Brian Joyce, Director of Metallurgical Services

Brian Joyce, Ph.D., brings vast experience and education to his role as director of metallurgical services at MSI. Managing the company’s team of metallurgists, he oversees all aspects of the facility, including testing, failure analysis and consulting services. He co-founded MSI in 2002, with Angela Phillips, president and CEO, leveraging his expertise in performing testing and failure analysis for the aerospace, automotive, medical, and construction industries – among others.

Prior to MSI, Brian supported numerous companies, including Delphi, A.O. Smith, International Paper, Smith’s Aerospace divisions and the Department of Energy. He has performed testing on advanced materials used in space-based applications. Over the years, he has established a strong, consistent track record of favorably impacting manufacturing and engineering efficiencies by producing actionable reports that are clear and easy to understand.

Brian’s past experience includes serving as an adjunct faculty member in the engineering department at Wright State University where he frequently appears as a guest speaker.

Brian holds a doctorate degree in materials science from Wright State University, masters degree in Cost Analysis from the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), and a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from Purdue.  He is a member of the Engineers Club of Dayton and The American Society for Metals (ASM International).
